Painting Tips that Work

My wife just called me upstairs and asked me to take a look at the painting that she’s beginning. It looks pretty cool she set up a model to paint from. The model is a glass of wine a bottle of wine and a candle. All of it is set neatly on a white backdrop. She had me a pencil and said figure out all of the angles. She said you have to sit at my height so you can see my perception. Maybe it’s all point of view. I’m not really that short. Basically I can see the angles by holding the pencil in a direct line so that the pencil it hedges were touching different sections of the art piece that she’s going to paint. I didn’t realize that you have to first figure out the shapes on a Page before you can actually do the painting.

I came across this YouTube video that seemed pretty cool. Cate creates a rainy day seen using acrylics. I thought this would be a nice example to reinforce the idea that a lot goes into these paintings. I had no idea. As my wife begin to explain everything that she was considering in creating the art work, it was mind blowing.

I believe I just don’t have the patience for it. It seems to complex. I will head and throwing a link to building basic scenes for painting. Obviously you have to be a pretty good pencil artist before you can do this.

Just a scene alone that my wife is drawing on the canvas is pretty impressive. What was crazy as the eye for detail. I noticed that she could see the reflection of the candle in the wine glass. I didn’t even perceive such a reflection until she pointed it out to me. Low and behold it was right there in front of me on the drawing as well.

I know she has a really good eye for detail and for shadows which is pretty impressive. What I didn’t understand before about painting was not shadows are represented in different colors. Based on how the colors change indicates shadows that our brains picked up on. Mixing the paint in coming up with the exact color seems mind-boggling.

Nevertheless you can find some detailed information here on how to draw anything.  Click this link.

Good luck and I hope this blog post inspires you to continue on in your endeavors as an artist. I realized that my role in the whole situation is just to support my wife and be her number one cheerleader. I don’t have the patience or passion for art the way she does. However, it is super inspiring to watch her go.

By the way here is another resource if you’re looking to paint and need help with creating shapes in order to sketch out your drawing/painting.

Upstairs Studio: making it a home

How do you like my wife’s drawing. I think it is fantastic.  She just completed it the other day.

I just wanted to give everybody an update. I just came back down from upstairs. I am so proud of my wife because she took one of the rooms in our house and has completely changed it into a studio. As I left her she was sitting on top of the stool preparing the canvas for a painting that she was about to embark upon.

All I can say is that I’m really happy for her. When she paints and does any type of art for that matter it puts her in a good place. When she’s a a good place, I’m in a good place if you know to mean.

Plus, the room looks so much better.

And a stroke of genius she actually uses one of the corners to keep all of her art supplies In and in front of that is one of those room dividers. I don’t know what I’m talking about, but they are decorative dividers that stand alone. It gives the room a little extra umph… And provides a great way to hide the clutter of an easel, stool, in general art supplies like floor covering so that the carpet is protected from any paint spills.

I’m not sure what the reason is for this, but I always feel so much better when I recognize that the house is clean and everything is in order. Recently I walked outside and I noticed some green algae growing on the outside the house. I thought about trying to clean it myself but then, I figured that Google can give me a little bit better information. I came across a pressure washing company and so I hired them. They came out and did a really good job. Here is the site.

It’s crazy but now that my house is clean inside and out and winter time here in Florida is fast approaching, I feel like I can really enjoy the outdoors now. My plan today is to go over to Vero Beach and hang out over there. I just really enjoy the positive ions that come from the breaking water molecules in the ocean surf.

I’m going to try to snap a picture of what my wife is working on today and posted as soon as I can. In the meantime I put work that you did recently on here. I think she did a great job.

Is anybody out there?

I just wondered if the comments section of the site is working. If you stop by, make sure to leave a comment. Thanks.

As always I appreciate the help that you are providing me with putting my wife’s low self esteem to death when it comes to her artwork. I want her to be able to shine and know that what she is doing is simply wonderful.

Before you go thinking too brilliantly about me, spare yourself. I screw up and fall short in lots of other areas. In this area though, I just thought it might help a little.

Talk at ya later.
